Description
Shade Lover Attracts Hummingbirds
The Astilbe ‘Rheinland’, Astilbe japonica, has striking tall, feathery blooms of clear pink that rise above the foliage, adding a light, airy quality. It has mid-green foliage, changing to green in the spring. The flowers contrast wonderfully with the glossy foliage. Astilbe ‘Rheinland’ blooms in midsummer
It is most successfully grown in a shady area, but can tolerate some morning sun. Do not allow Astilbe ‘Rheinland’ to dry out since it prefers moist, humus, organically-rich soils.
A moist, well-drained area is a key feature for growing a healthy plant. In order to keep Astilbe looking good for the next year, do not cut it back in the winter, (the old foliage helps protect the plant from winter damage), but prune in early spring.
Astilbe is considered to be deer resistant and will attract hummingbirds. ‘Rheinland’ Astilbe can be used as cut flowers to make grand bouquets.
Plant this showy perennial for beautiful summer color in shady areas. You will be delighted to see how this plant forms a graceful perennial border, or add to shade gardens with Hostas and Ferns!
